Thierry Mortet

In 1992 Thierry took over his half of the family estate (Domaine Charles Mortet & Fils), and with 7 hectares of vines, he produces some 30'000 bottles a year: a small, beautiful domain, as is his late brother’s, Denis Mortet, which is now run by his son Arnaud.  This is a very serious line of winemakers.

 

The place is easy to find: it is in beautiful Gevrey Chambertin, the northern part of Burgundy (Côte de Nuits), on lovely Marroniers Square.

 

Since 2007 his products are certified organic, though that doesn’t mean he had to go dramatically out of his way, as he was always very attentive to the vinification process.

 

He is known to produce light, sophisticated, and refined Gevreys. He gets very emotional when it comes to his "Vigne Belle". He loves fruits, and indeed there's plenty of cassis, raspberry and cherry flavours. Tannins are present are long in elegance.

 

One-third of the Gevrey Chambertin is raised in new wood for 16 months, while two-thirds go closed vats for 4 months and then in barrels of 1 or 2 year to age.
